Dry Needling

Dry NeedlingLooking for Dry Needling  ?

In the past few years, non-acupuncturists have begun offering what is essentially trigger point acupuncture with a different name. Dry needling refers to using hypodermic needles without any injection media… no drugs, just needles.

It’s the same as trigger point acupuncture

The focus, diagnosis and treatment is exactly the same as Trigger Point Acupuncture. Sometimes a medical practitioner will inject a fluid or drug into the area (but that’s not dry needling then).
Trigger point acupuncture finds one or more muscles that are related to the poin the patient is experiencing. The acupuncture needles are inserted in the the offending muscles and the muscle is gently probed. This probing causes the muscle to react involuntarily. After several twitches, the muscle stops responding due to fatigue. The muscle has also lost its tightness and thus release the stress on the area of the body that is experiencing pain.

Dry Needling in New Jersey

In New Jersey, Physical Therapists had a short window where they were allowed to perform this modern twist of an ancient medical treatment. More recently, the Board of Medical examiners dis-allowed Physical Therapists from performing Dry Needling due to it being out of their practice scope. Acupuncturists however were allowed before, during and after the rule changes.

Trigger Point acupuncture is very much about experience in first finding the proper muscle to treat and then the skill at evoking the twitching. Some muscles twitch easier than others.

If you are seeking someone with 17 years of searching out constricted muscles and then inserting a tiny, solid needle into the muscle to get it to release it’s unnatural pull and the indirect pain it causes. Consider coming to me.

I’m Rhonda Hogan, I’ve treated hundreds of patients using trigger point acupuncture in my practice in Somerset NJ. I know the body, the muscles, and the typical locations for those pain-causing muscles.
